Dub's April Premier League Team of the Month - 2024/25

With April ending it is time for another team of the month. A highly competitive month meant that especially in midfield a few players were very unlucky not to make the cut. The team has a 4-5-1 formation for the first time this season. Remember the players take on the position they occupy in the Premier League’s official ‘Fantasy Premier League’.

Goalkeeper

Robert Sanchez (Chelsea)

Sanchez has been maligned since joining Chelsea last season and lost his place earlier in this campaign. He responded well in April however, keeping three clean sheets in five games as the Blues went unbeaten gaining 11 points. He made a key save from Heung-min Son in the 1-0 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. The highlight of his month was a super 87th minute save to deny a low shot from Dwight McNeil in another 1-0 home triumph over Everton.

Defenders

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

Sessegnon returned to Fulham on a free transfer in the summer and now he is finally getting a chance he is showing his worth. He equalised against Liverpool with a fine finish after a poor clearance by Curtis Jones. He then assisted Alex Iwobi’s goal in the 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea. He concluded the month with his biggest statement, scoring a superb injury-time header to beat relegated Southampton 2-1.

Fabian Schar (Newcastle)

Newcastle’s defence kept three clean sheets in their six April contests and on top of that Schar was involved at the other end of the pitch too. His audacious effort from the halfway line struck the bar against Leicester and Jacob Murphy put in the rebound. Schar’s header made it 4-0 in the 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace. He also scored the equaliser in the away game at Aston Villa only for the Magpies to fall to a 4-1 loss.

Emmanuel Agbadou (Wolverhampton)

Agbadou came in the winter transfer window from Reims and has acclimatised rapidly to Premier League football. Wolves won all their games in April, and they had three shutouts whilst doing it with the Ivory Coast international impressing. Agbadou completed 30 clearances in five games in the month. He also distributed well to relieve pressure on Wolves’ backline and midfield. At a stage Wolves had the league’s worst defence but that is no longer the case.

Rayan Ait-Nouri (Wolverhampton)

Ait-Nouri did a job all over the pitch for Wolves as he excelled in his best position as a wing-back. As well as helping Wolves keep three clean sheets, Ait-Nouri showed how important he is going forward. He scored the opener with a shot into the ground that flew in against Tottenham before assisting the third goal for Jorgen Strand Larsen as they won 4-2. Ait-Nouri was provider again to close the month as he assisted Matheus Cunha in the 3-0 win over Leicester.

Midfielders

Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City)

Despite being a midfielder by trade, O’Reilly has done a great job since filling in at left back for Pep Guardiola’s men. The 20-year-old helped City to three clean sheets and found the net twice in April. He scored he last goal in the 5-2 win over Crystal Palace. The youngster then also found the net with a critical goal to break the deadlock late on in the 2-0 victory at Everton. He is comfortable on the ball and does not shy away from a challenge.

Harvey Barnes (Newcastle)

Barnes has taken the chance to deputise for Anthony Gordon with great aplomb. He assisted Sandro Tonali’s blockbuster strike to beat Brentford. He then scored the third goal in the 3-0 win at Leicester. He followed that up with a clinical brace in the 4-1 home win against Manchester United. His last contribution was the third goal with another good finish in the 5-0 romp of Crystal Palace.

 Jacob Murphy (Newcastle)

Murphy continues to go from strength to strength. He began the month assisting Alexander Isak as the Magpies beat Brentford 2-1. He copped a first half brace as they coasted to a 3-0 triumph at Leicester. He assisted Harvey Barnes’ first goal as Eddie Howe’s men disposed of Manchester United 4-1. He scored a thunderbolt to give Newcastle the lead in a 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace, before his great ball in was headed in by Fabian Schar for the fourth.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool)

Diaz narrowly kept his teammate Alexis Mac Allister out of the team of the month as he first assisted Diogo Jota’s winner in the Merseyside Derby. Next, he came off the bench to score in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat at Fulham. The Colombian opened the scoring when the Reds beat West Ham 2-1 at Anfield. He was on the scoresheet again at home as he equalised from close range in the 5-1 victory over Tottenham that sealed the league title.

Leandro Trossard (Arsenal)

The Belgian was lethal in front of goal in April. His controlled low finish gave Arsenal the lead at Everton in a 1-1 draw. He was at the double away at Ipswich in a 4-0 win as he squeezed an effort into the corner in the first half and put a shot through an opponent’s legs into the net in the second half. Trossard ended the month showing good control and found the corner once again to give the Gunners a 2-1 lead in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Forward

Jorgen Strand Larsen (Wolverhampton)

Strand Larsen netted four times in April as Wolves had an 100% record. A good effort from outside the box took a slight deflection to get Vitor Pereira’s side past West Ham at home. He turned in Pablo Sarabia’s pass from close range to complete the comeback to edge Ipswich 2-1 at Portman Road. When Wolves beat Tottenham 4-2, he scored the third goal after he was found by Rayan Ait-Nouri. He then showed good movement to slot away Matheus Cunha’s ball again in the 3-0 win at home to Leicester.
