After a disjointed month in terms of the games played due to the international break and the Carabao Cup final, the belated March team of the month is finally here as Premier League action returns. With a lack of forwards really impressing, the team has a 4-5-1 formation for the first time this season. Remember, the players are in the position they occupy in the Premier League’s official ‘Fantasy Premier League’.
Goalkeeper
Caoimhin Kelleher (Brentford)
Kelleher stood firm between the sticks as Brentford went unbeaten in March, drawing all their matches. The Bees kept two clean sheets in three games and Kelleher’s alertness was a factor. His highlight was when he made an important save from Ryan Christie in the goalless draw with Bournemouth. The Republic of Ireland international made 8 saves in the three games. He has made 82 saves this campaign which have him 8th overall. His 8 clean sheets this season have him joint-7th.

Defenders
Neco Williams (Nottingham Forest)
Williams helped Forest to 5 points in March as they continue their battle against the drop and they also had two shutouts in their four matches. Things began badly as in a loss away at Brighton, but they bounced back with a massive point away at Manchester City. Vitor Perreira’s man then kept back-to-back clean sheets as they drew with Fulham and then won 3-0 at Tottenham. In the win at Spurs, Williams assisted twice. Igor Jesus headed in a Williams corner for the first and then Williams’ superb cross was put in by Taiwo Awoniyi for the third goal. Williams is joint-3rd in duels won with 184.
Omar Alderete (Sunderland)
The Black Cats took six points from a possible 9 in March and Aldrete was busy as ever at the back. He was ubiquitous in the away win at Leeds where he made no less than 17 clearances and won 8 aerial duels. Phil de Bris’ followed that with a huge Derby triumph over Newcastle and Alderete had the most clearances of any of their players again with 8. The Paraguayan is joint-7th in blocks this season with 26 whilst being 6th in clearances with 189.
Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)
As Arsenal edge ever closer to their first title in 22 years, Gabriel continues to show his worth. After returning from his latest injury, he took a couple of games to get back into the groove, but he is back nearer his best now. The Brazilian was an important figure in March as the Gunners had an 100% record and they kept two clean sheets in their three games. He was colossal against Brighton where he made 14 clearances and won 4 aerial duels. Gabriel is joint-8th in blocks with 25 this season overall.
Adrien Truffert (Bournemouth)
Truffert has had a very good debut Premier League season after being brought in to replace Milos Kerkez. He has defended well and is much better going forward than was first expected. Another solid month saw him help the Cherries to an unbeaten month as they drew all their three games. After two goalless draws Andoni Iraola’s men drew 2-2 with Manchester United and Truffert set up their first equaliser for Ryan Christie. The Frenchman is joint-5th in the league in interceptions with 40, and 8th in duels won with 171 this campaign.
Midfielders
Diego Gomez (Brighton)
Gomez has impressed when starting for the Seagulls and he had a good March. Gomez opened the scoring in the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest with a powerful effort that Matz Sels could not keep out despite getting a hand on it. Fabian Hurzeler’s men got a big win over Liverpool to end the month and Gomez’s header setup the opening goal from Danny Welbeck. Gomez is 7th amongst midfielders with 149 duels won.
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle)
Gordon had a long spell in the league without an open play goal for Newcastle, but now he cannot stop scoring. Gordon’s penalty gave the Magpies the lead in the 2-1 triumph against Manchester United in which they had 10-men. Next up, a classic counter-attack was rounded off by Gordon as Newcastle got a big away win at Chelsea. He then opened the scoring in the Derby with Sunderland with a low finish, only for the Black Cats to prevail 2-1.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
Fernandes moved up to 16 assists overall in March as he chases the record for assists in a single season. United came from behind to beat 10-man Crystal Palace and the Portuguese scored from the penalty spot and then assisted the winner for Bejamin Sesko. A free-kick got him another assist as Casemiro scored in the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle. Another set piece saw him assist Casemiro again against Aston Villa, he then produced a sublime pass to assist Matheus Cunha for 2-1. He scored again from the penalty spot in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest)
Forest captain Gibbs-White is leading their pursuit to avoid relegation. His first contribution did not lead to any points as his strike from outside the box levelled things up against Brighton in a 2-1 loss. His clever backheel drew Vitor Pereira’s side level in a gargantuan 2-2 draw at Manchester City. His close-range finish then made it 2-0 as they closed the month with a win in the relegation six-pointer at Tottenham. Forest are three points clear now from the relegation zone.
Harry Wilson (Fulham)
Wilson’s great season continued as he delivered again for the Cottagers in March. Marco Silva’s men beat Tottenham 2-1 at Craven Cottage and Wilson bagged the first with an aesthetically pleasing strike. He then fed Alex Iwobi for the second. Wilson ended the month with the important second goal to put Fulham 2-1 up against Burnley as he cut-in and drove low past Martin Dubravka. The Welshman now has an impressive 10 league goals this campaign.
Forwards
Danny Welbeck (Brighton)
Welbeck continues to be ignored by Thomas Tuchel despite being the top-scoring Englishman in the Premier League. March saw him take his tally for the season to 12 as he found the net three times. To begin, he scored in the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest with a lovely turn and finish. Welbeck concluded March with a brace in a 2-1 home win against Liverpool. His first saw him head in a flick-on by Diego Gomez, his second was a simple finish from close range.
