Fantasy Football Files - Gameweek 29

Updated: Mar 5, 2019

This week turned out to be better than expected. After making two transfers in GW28, I thought I'll give them time to make an impact and I wouldn't make any transfers, as this would give me 2 transfers in GW30.

Alex McCarthy was dropped for Angus Gunn in midweek, so I knew that he would not be in goal for Southampton in their game away at Manchester United, which meant I had no choice but to put Lukasz Fabianski in. As I do not like to always put a goalkeeper and defender in from the same side, I almost did not make a decision that shaped the gameweek. At the very last moment, I decided to put Declan Rice in for Jan Bednarek (Southampton), as for some reason I thought that he may do something and it definitely paid off. Rice plays midfield but is listed as a defender and this is why I have him in my squad in the first place. As he played more than an hour (2 points) a goal (6 points for a defender), a clean sheet (4 for a defender) and then he got 3 bonus points, a whopping 15 points altogether, that would have been only 11, if he was listed as a midfielder. Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan Bissaka returned from injury and got a rare assist meaning a solid total from him and Andy Robertson got another clean sheet in Liverpool's dull draw with Everton, to round off my 3 man defence.

I re-jigged my whole squad not to long ago to get Son Heung-Min in and again he nothing, I have not picked any players from Manchester United (because I hate them), Arsenal (not too fond of them either), Everton (the scum from down the road) or Chelsea all season. This list included Spurs players, but I broke that to put Son in as he was on too much of a hot streak, but now he is not firing, may look to take him out soon for a cheaper alternative to give me more money in other areas. Wolves' Diogo Jota gave me the points return I expected as they won at home to Cardiff, an early goal and assist. Liverpool's duo of Mane & Salah did not bring me the return I desired. Mane has been good for points recently but nothing this time around and Salah was much more frustrating as he had a couple of really good chances, this would have meant a far greater points total as he was my captain. I am seriously considering taking him out, and indeed if he did not play for the team i support, then I would have by now. I have faith, but it is wearing thin, when he does start again however, I do not believe he will stop.

Up front I made the impulsive decision in GW28 to put Marko Arnautovic in for Jamie Vardy and I have regretted it ever since. He was not fit in GW28 and he was only on the bench in GW29, he did almost get assist, but this only gave me a mammoth 1 point! Meanwhile in the two games since coming out of my side, Vardy has decided to score again and bagged against Brighton and Watford to my annoyance. A rare occasion I did not give the captaincy to Sergio Aguero worked, as he did not continue his hot streak away to Bournemouth. Raul Jimenez just like his teammate Jota scored and assisted against Cardiff giving him a very nice 12 points, I should have had the courage to make him captain. All in all a much higher points total than I perceived I would get.
