Fantasy Football Files - Gameweek 37

Updated: May 16, 2019

After my record breaking gameweek 36; I was mulling over what transfers I should make, as I had two due to the fact that I did not make any last week. I should have made a decision to take out a midfielder or a forward, but I was confused, and made two changes at the back, that both failed miserably.

The games started on Friday night, as Everton played Burnley; as I thought West Ham and Southampton would be a goal fest, I took out Declan Rice, and put in James Tarkowski from Burnley. I did not think Tarkowski would definitely keep a clean sheet, but Everton have had weaknesses when defending set pieces, and for some reason I thought Tarkowski might be able to nick a goal or assist from one. Burnley, turned out to be poor and Everton won 2-0 with a quick double, a bad start.

On Saturday, I was further disappointed as Southampton's Nathan Redmond was on the bench for their trip to West Ham, he did come on, but they lost 3-0. My usually reliable Wolves duo of Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez came up short although Wolves did win 1-0 at home to Fulham. Jota, hit the woodwork and came close on three other occasions. The first late kick off, saw Crystal Palace win away at Cardiff 3-2. I thought as Palace are decent on their travels, that their keeper Vicente Guaita might be able to get me some points, so I transferred him in for Lukasz Fabianski. So just my luck Fabianski kept a clean sheet in the aforementioned win over Southampton and Guaita conceded two, one of them a ridiculous own goal by Martin Kelly because of miscommunication at the back. Aaron Wan Bissaka just got a solitary point as Palace conceded two also. West Ham's clean sheet, which also meant I missed out on points from Declan Rice, who as I said I also sold.

As I knew I had no players active in Sunday's three matches, a lot hinged as always on a Liverpool game. As I nearly always have three Liverpool players in my team. Liverpool won 3-2 at Newcastle, and Salah, my captain for the gameweek scored. There was no chance of a second goal however, as Salah came off in the second chance with a concussion. A rare occasion with no significant Sadio Mane contribution meant that he only gained 2 points, and as Liverpool conceded two, Andy Robertson only got one point.

So the week ended on Monday, as Manchester City played Leicester. As it has the intensity in the title race it has hot epic proportions, seeing Sergio Aguero score away to Burnley filled me with pain, so I put him on the bench. Leicester lost the game 1-0, so there was no major contribution from Youri Tielemens or Jamie Vardy. A dismal return of 30 points it was then, but with my indecision, I had a feeling I would have a bad week. It was only my colossal points total last week that softened the blow.
