Dub's August Premier League Team of the Month 2025/26

The new 2025/26 season is here, so I am back with the first Premier League team of the month of the campaign. As always, a few players were very unlucky not to make it like Everton’s Ilman Ndiaye being an example. This month’s team takes on a 4-4-2 formation. Remember the players are in the positions they occupy in the Premier League’s official ‘Fantasy Premier League’.

Goalkeeper

Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham)

Vicario had strong competition in August but just squeezed the pick for the keeper position. The Italian international made 13 saves in the month as he kept two clean sheets in three games, including a massive one away in a win at Manchester City. Against Burnley and Manchester City he made good saves from Jaidon Anthony and Omar Marmoush respectively en route to his two shutouts. In the 1-0 loss to Bournemouth he made a brilliant save to deny Antoine Semenyo.

Defenders

Daniel Munoz (Crystal Palace)

The Eagles took 5 points from a possible 9 in a tricky start to the campaign. They had two clean sheets in the month, and Munoz’s work rate played a huge part. They began with a very good point at Chelsea. They followed that with another point in the 1-1 home draw with Nottingham Forest where Munoz assisted Ismaila Sarr for the opener. Oliver Glasner’s men ended with an impressive 3-0 win away at Aston Villa where Munoz worked tirelessly up and down the right-hand side.

Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea)

Chalobah got the nod this month over his teammate Marc Cucurella. His impressive month saw him score in the 5-1 romp at the expense of West Ham. He helped Chelsea win a contentious penalty in the 2-0 victory over Fulham too. Among defenders he is joint-3rd with 21 duels won as well as being 3rd in touches with 254. He is also joint-3rd in interceptions with 5 and 6th in passes with 207.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Despite being linked to a move to Liverpool all summer and that almost materialising on deadline day, Guehi handled himself like a model professional and put in solid performances. Palace’s captain helped them secure two clean sheets as they coped well with what looked an awkward start to the season. In the away win at Aston Villa to conclude the month Guehi scored a sublime strike to make it 2-0 curling the ball into the top corner.

Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal)

Calafiori has justified regaining his place at left back from Miles Lewis-Skelly with a good start to the new season. His header won Mikel Arteta’s men all three points in a 1-0 victory at Manchester United on the opening weekend. The Gunners kept another clean sheet as they thrashed newly promoted Leeds 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The Italian assisted twice here, first to Viktor Gyokeres and then for the fourth by Jurrien Timber.

Midfielders

Dominic Szoboszlai (Liverpool)

With Liverpool bringing in Florian Wirtz, it was thought by some that Szoboszlai would be the man who dropped to the bench. He began the first game in midfield, after that however due to injuries he ended up having to fill in at right back for the next two matches. He gave his all in the 3-2 win over 10-man Newcastle, before producing a man of the match display to end the month in the 1-0 triumph over Arsenal. The Hungarian scored the winning goal with a tremendous 30-yard free-kick.

Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea)

Chelsea’s captain has led by example to start the campaign as the Blues took 7 points from 9. They were held to a home draw by Crystal Palace before they kicked things into gear. West Ham were put to the slaughter at the London Stadium and Fernandez scored the third goal in the 5-1 win. In a controversial 2-0 victory over Fulham, the Argentine was involved in both goals as he crossed for Joao Pedro’s header and scored a second half penalty.

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

Semenyo still being at Bournemouth may be a surprise to some. The Cherries travelled to Liverpool for their first game and Semenyo was subjected to vile racist abuse. He responded with a brace getting them back to 2-2 after Arne Slot’s men led 2-0, his second was a fine individual goal, as it unfortunately for him ended 4-2 to the home side. The Ghanaian in the next match assisted Marcus Tavernier’s winner as the Cherries beat Wolves 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Jack Grealish (Everton)

Grealish has joined the Toffees on loan from Manchester City, and the early signs are he has regained the form that once made him an £100m player. He only came off the bench in Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds. Since then, he started at home to Brighton and away at Wolves and now leads the league with 4 assists. He supplied both goals in the 2-0 triumph over the Seagulls, before getting two more assists in the 3-2 success at Wolves. It will be hard for Thomas Tuchel to ignore him if he keeps up this form.

Forwards

Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool)

Ekitike is a little unlucky Alexander Isak has been brought by Liverpool too as he has adapted very quickly to Premier League football. He scored the champions’ first goal of the new season as he calmly slotted in against Bournemouth in a 4-2 win. Ekitike then assisted the second goal for Cody Gakpo. Arne Slot’s team then travelled to Newcastle and despite the home side going down to 10 men they gave the Reds a tough game. To start the second half Ekitike produced a fine finish in off the post to make it 2-0 in a 3-2 win. It will now be interesting to see where he is deployed now Isak has been signed.

Joao Pedro (Chelsea)

Chelsea’s new signing has made an instant impact after arriving from Brighton. The Blues will be disappointed they could not get past Crystal Palace but followed that game up in the best way possible. Pedro was a pivotal figure in back-to-back wins. First up, he equalised against West Ham and then assisted Pedro Neto and Trevor Chalobah as they went on to hammer Graham Potter’s men 5-1. Enzo Maresca’s men then beat Fulham 2-0 in the Derby and Pedro opened the scoring with a header.
