January’s alternative Premier League team of the month is here. Numerous players were unlucky to miss out this month with the competition being at an extremely high level especially in the forward positions. Nonetheless a worthy XI has still been produced as the team takes on a 3-5-2 formation. Remember, the players are in the positions they occupy in the Premier League’s official ‘Fantasy Premier League’.
Goalkeeper
Robert Sanchez (Chelsea)
David Raya kept the most clean sheets in January with 3, however as Raya only had two saves to make, Sanchez gets the nod ahead of Raya and Caoimhin Kelleher. Sanchez missed Chelsea’s first game of the month and then went on to make no less than 18 saves in 4 games to help the Blues to 9 points from the 12 available. Liam Rosenoir’s men beat Brentford 2-0, and at 1-0 Sanchez made a superb save with his legs from Kevin Schade. In the 3-1 win at Crystal Palace, he made a crucial save with his legs again from Jean-Philippe Mateta at 0-0.

Defenders
Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth)
Before January, the Cherries had not won in 10 matches. They then went on to win three out of five games in the month as they picked up 10 points. Senesi has been very consistent for them, and he had another good month. The Argentine is 2nd in the Premier League in clearances with 178, 2nd in interceptions with 40, as well as being 3rd in blocks with 31. Senesi helped at the other end too as he assisted Eli Kroupi’s goal in the 3-2 home win over Tottenham. Bournemouth also had another big home victory over Liverpool which he did well in.
Nathan Collins (Brentford)
Brentford kept two clean sheets as they collected 7 points from a possible 12 in January. Collins has been solid for most of the campaign, and he helped at both ends of the pitch. In the 4-2 win at Everton, Collins headed in the second goal from Vitaly Janelt’s corner. He then found Igor Thiago for the fourth goal on the break. The Irishman assisted again as he got the ball to Yehor Yarmoluk from a corner in a 3-0 victory over Sunderland. In the league, Collins ranks 2nd in blocks with 32 and 6th in clearances with 151 so far this season.
Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United)
Dorgu showed bits of promise whilst Ruben Amorim was in charge, but he has exploded since Michael Carrick is at the helm. Under Amorim, his good cross assisted Benjamin Sesko’s second goal in the 2-2 draw at Burnley. After Carrick took charge, Dorgu scored the second goal, as United got a gargantuan 2-0 win in the Derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford. Dorgu scored again, in another massive statement as the Red Devils won 3-2 away at leaders Arsenal. Dorgu’s goal was a tremendous left footed volley in off the crossbar before he came off with an injury. The Denmark international is 8th in duels won with 140 this campaign.
Midfielders
Yasin Ayari (Brighton)
The Swede helped Brighton to six points in January. The Seagulls beat Burnley 2-0 at the Amex Stadium and Ayari bagged the second goal with a lovely finish into the bottom corner. Fabian Hurzeler’s men then got an important point away at Manchester City and Ayari assisted the equaliser for Kaoru Mitoma. Ayari scored another great strike in a 2-1 defeat at Fulham that was too hot for Bernd Leno to handle. He ended the month with another assist as his pass was dummied by Charalampos Kostoulas and finished off by Pascal Gross in the 1-1 home draw with Everton.
Harry Wilson (Fulham)
Wilson picked up where he left off in December as he bagged two game-winning goals for the Cottagers in another efficient month. The Welshman gave Fulham the lead against his former club Liverpool, with a good finish into the bottom corner in a 2-2 draw. In the local Derby with Chelsea, he won the game with a good strike on his right foot in the 81st minute to make it 2-1. He was the match winner again in the next home game as his fantastic 92nd minute free-kick edged out Brighton 2-1.

Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea)
Chelsea’s captain came up clutch in January as he scored two significant late goals to gain vital points. It all began with a 94th minute tap-in to salvage a point away at Manchester City. In the 2-0 home triumph over Brentford when they massively rode their luck he setup the opener for Joao Pedro. He then netted a penalty away at Crystal Palace to make it 3-0 in a 3-1 win. He concluded the month how he started it with an injury time goal this time to complete a comeback from 2-0 at home to West Ham for three more points.
Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)
It has taken awhile for Wirtz to properly get going in the Premier League, but he has now found some rhythm. The German levelled things up at 1-1 in a 2-2 draw with Fulham with a tidy finish on his weaker foot. He gave the Reds the lead in a 1-1 draw with Burnley with a classy finish into the roof of the net. Arne Slot’s finally won their first league game of 2026 at home to Newcastle and Wirtz was in top form. His great footwork helped him lay on the equaliser for Hugo Ekitike. He then scored in off the post for the third after Mo Salah passed to him in a 4-1 triumph.
Crysensio Summerville (West Ham)
Summerville stepped up to help the Hammers’ talisman Jarrod Bowen as they won two of their last three January games as they battle to beat the drop. West Ham won 2-1 in the London Derby at Tottenham and Summerville scored the first goal with a deflected shot. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men then beat Sunderland 3-1 at the London Stadium and Summerville opened the scoring again with a crashing header from a Jarrod Bowen cross. The Dutchman scored for the third consecutive game as he put them 2-0 up at Chelsea, only for the Blues to come back and win 3-2. He just kept out Bruno Fernandes who was unlucky after getting four assists.
Forwards
Igor Thiago (Brentford)
Thiago did not end the month anywhere near as well as he started it, however his start was so emphatic he made the cut. Brentford’s two January victories were down to Thiago’s exploits. The Bees won 4-2 at Everton and Thiago got a hat-trick. His first was a good low finish. He showed composure again for his second with a placed finish. Then scored another good goal this time on the break to complete the hat-trick. Thiago was at the double in the 3-0 home dispatching of Sunderland. His calmness was evident again as he took the ball around Robin Roefs for his first on the counter. His second was a close-range header.
Thierno Barry (Everton)
The last forward slot had major competition. Bournemouth’s duo of Eli Kroupi Jnr and Evanilson almost made as both scored 3 goals. Joao Pedro who just like the previous names had 3 goals was also unfortunate, but Barry got the nod for the importance of his January goals. He began things with his least important goal, a consolation in a 4-2 defeat at home to Brentford. The Toffees then got a big win that dented any Aston Villa aspirations of the title. Barry netted the only goal with a deft finish. He also salvaged a point for David Moyes’ men in a 1-1 home draw with Leeds.
